Tuesday, February 22, U.S. news media are reporting that Russia plans to send troops into breakaway regions of Ukraine controlled by pro-Russian forces.
However things unfold, a war between U.S.-backed forces and Russia over Ukraine would be a humanitarian nightmare, a slaughter of innocent civilians. It would be fundamentally driven not by a triggering incident (real or fake) but by the insatiable compulsion for imperialist powers to grab more or be pushed off the table of global bloodsuckers. For people here in the belly of the beast, our interests lie not in getting behind our oppressors in any form, but in welcoming their defeats as part of building a movement to overthrow this system.
To understand what is going on in Ukraine, what is behind this conflict and where the interests of humanity lie, see revcom.us recent coverage. And watch and gather up others to watch the upcoming episode of The RNL—Revolution, Nothing Less!—Show on YouTube.

To our readers:
In a heinous act dripping with hypocrisy, Vladimir Putin announced he was sending in his army to “demilitarize and de-Nazify” Ukraine. This is nothing but grotesque imperialist bullshit to justify a move to protect the capitalist-imperialist interests of Russia.
In words which were even more hypocritical, American political players from Biden on down self-righteously deplored this move—while conveniently ignoring the U.S.’s own history of doing exactly the same kind of thing, except qualitatively more frequently and on a much more horrendous scale. And, of course, Biden very conveniently covered over the ways in which the U.S. and NATO have goaded this on.
In order to understand what is really going on, we urge you to read “As Ominous Events Unfold in Ukraine, a Basic Orientation” and “While Russian Troops Mass on the Ukraine Border, U.S. Provocations Escalate Danger of War”; to tune into The RNL—Revolution, Nothing Less—Show today, Thursday, at 8 pm EST, 7 pm CST, and 5 pm PST; and to come back to this site later today, as we add materials that can explain this.
In the meantime, keep this in mind:
The interests, objectives, and grand designs of the imperialists are not our interests—they are not the interests of the great majority of people in the U.S. nor of the overwhelming majority of people in the world as a whole. And the difficulties the imperialists have gotten themselves into in pursuit of these interests must be seen, and responded to, not from the point of view of the imperialists and their interests, but from the point of view of the great majority of humanity and the basic and urgent need of humanity for a different and better world, for another way.
